Pride in God’s Gifts

A personal experience from our CEO, Sharon.

When we find ourselves in a season of blessings—feeling like we’re on top of the mountain—it’s crucial to watch our heart posture. Recently, I had a humbling experience that reminded me of this.

I was at a gas station, and I often ask God to show me someone I can bless. However, on this particular morning, I forgot to make that request. Yet, God still placed someone in my path. There was a man trying to pay for his gas with a handful of quarters, dimes, and nickels he had in a little baggie. I felt a nudge in my heart to help him. As I walked to the cashier to have him my card to offer $20, I was immediately convicted.

Pride had stepped in.

I immediately repented. When the gentleman realized what I was doing, he looked at me and said, “thank you.” I said “don’t thank me thank God I always ask for someone for God to bless and today it was you.” He replied, “He must’ve known I had a rough morning.”

Thankfully, I was able to get rid of my pride and he knows God saw him. He was having a rough day and God blessed him and he used me as his hands and feet to do it.

That interaction reminded me of how important it is to keep our pride in check. I realized that I hadn’t spent enough alone time with God recently; I had been too caught up in work and distractions. It’s easy for pride to sneak in, making us think we deserve God’s blessings, but that’s not true.

Our blessings come solely from our loving Father, the Alpha and Omega, who gives them to us through His grace, mercy, and unfailing love when He’s already given us the GREATEST gift – eternal lie with Him!

In this season of blessings, I’m grateful that I managed to set aside my pride with the help of the Holy Spirit, allowing the gentleman to see God’s love in action. Remember, when you’re in a season of receiving, keep a humble heart. The Bible reminds us repeatedly to be humble; God separates Himself from the prideful.

So, whether it’s growth in our businesses or recognition at work, let’s acknowledge that these blessings come through God’s favor, mercy, and grace. Stay humble, and watch out for pride in God’s gifts!
